Reno Air Races

The Reno Air Races are held once a year, and its a huge national event for plane racing. The 2009 event is being held from September 16th through the 20th.

Stead Airport

The Air Races are held at the Stead Airport about 20 minutes North of Reno. There are lots of shuttles, and they're worth looking into. Reno doesn't get directly impacted, other than being quite busy. There are some cool planes flying around the Reno skies, but if you want to see the event, you have to get tickets and go there.

What are Air Races, anyways?

Think "NASCAR but with Planes" and you're on the right track. Seriously. These are big-boy toys with big budgets to match. Air Racing is also one of the most dangerous sports in the world, too. Different class planes complete going around loop courses in close proximity to each other.
