Great Reno Balloon Race

The Reno Balloon Races is one of the best events in Reno. Wake up the kids and come out early for a wholesome morning of visual splendor!

Dates and Times

For 2009, the event will be held on Friday, September 11th through Sunday, September 13th. Glow Show/Dawn Patrol starts early at 5am on Saturday and Sunday, but it's totally worth it. By 10am, the event is winding down and it's time to go on with the day (for spectators).

Bring the kids!

This is one of the few family-friendly events in Reno, and it's one the kids won't soon forget. So wake 'em up and enjoy. There are usually a few craft booths to wander through and some munchies to purchase as well. After the races, enjoy the Wilber D May Center in Rancho San Rafael Park, including their museum and arboretum.

Getting There

The event is held at Rancho San Rafael Park in North Reno near UNR. Some casinos will run shuttles, but they're often reserved for VIPs. Driving is easy, though. Parking will be directed to the main UNR events center, with a short walk a few blocks up the street. Just follow the crowds.

What to wear and bring

It will be VERY cold in the morning, but it warms up quickly once the sun rises--so dress in layers! Bring blankets to sit on, and folding/camping chairs if you want. Drinks and food are allowed. Leave the pets at home for everyone's enjoyment (especially theirs!)
